Wren Type – Garden Railway Steam-Outline Locomotive
Chassis & Body General Assembly Drawing Package
The Wren Type locomotive is a compact industrial steam-outline design intended for garden railway use. The styling follows the proportions of small industrial saddle tank locomotives while remaining generic in appearance.
This drawing package covers the complete chassis and body structure only. It is intended as a builder’s fabrication project and does not include wheels, axles, motor, or drive system components.
The chassis is formed from 6 mm steel plate, bent and fabricated for strength and rigidity. The frame arrangement allows construction in either 3½ inch or 5 inch gauge by selecting the appropriate axle configuration during the build.
The body assembly includes:
Left and right-hand water tanks
Tank front, back and lid components
Main body structure
Cab assembly
Two-part smokebox
Cylinder covers and slide bars
Buffer beams
Six buffer pins (three per end to allow two coupling heights)
Cosmetic connecting and coupling rods (free-running, non-driving)
The design prioritises:
Structural durability
Practical workshop fabrication
Clean, traditional industrial locomotive styling
Flexibility for builder-specified running gear and drive system
The general arrangement drawing includes a full itemised parts list covering all chassis and body components, suitable for fabrication in a well-equipped home workshop.
